Every Rotary year brings with it opportunities to reflect, reconnect, and re-energize the spirit of service—and DisCon 2025 was exactly that. Held at the elegant Elangeni Hotel in Durban from 1st to 3rd May 2025, this year’s District Conference proved to be an unforgettable gathering of Rotary leaders, members, changemakers, and visionaries united under the Rotary banner.
The conference was hosted by District Governor Raj and expertly organized in collaboration with the Rotary Club of High Noon, with Natt Modley serving as DisCon Chair. The three-day event blended the richness of Rotary tradition with the evolving needs of a changing world—reminding us why we serve, how we lead, and where we’re headed as a movement.
A Grand Opening with Purpose
The atmosphere at Elangeni buzzed with excitement as delegates from across the district arrived, greeted by banners of inspiration, old friends, and new faces. The official opening ceremony set the tone for what would be a deeply engaging and motivational event.
In his welcome address, District Governor Raj emphasized the importance of building resilient clubs, expanding community impact, and ensuring that Rotary remains inclusive, innovative, and sustainable for generations to come.
Adding prestige to the conference was the presence of Past District Governor Priyesh Bhandari, who attended as the Rotary International President’s Personal Representative. His keynote address focused on Rotary’s global reach, the power of local clubs, and the essential role of grassroots service in delivering long-term change.
Highlights & Key Takeaways
The heart of DisCon lies in the conversations, presentations, and ideas shared. This year’s theme revolved around strengthening Rotary’s impact through leadership, collaboration, and strategic focus. Sessions were insightful, and speakers covered a range of relevant topics including:
🕊️ Peace & Conflict Resolution
With rising global tensions and social divides, this session highlighted how Rotary can play a non-political, non-religious role in conflict mediation, dialogue, and youth empowerment. It challenged clubs to integrate peace-building efforts in local projects and adopt frameworks to nurture empathy and resilience in our communities.
👶 Maternal & Child Health
One of Rotary’s seven areas of focus, this session dove deep into the realities faced by women and children across the continent. The panel advocated for increased partnerships with healthcare professionals, improved access to prenatal support, and community education programs on nutrition and wellness.
🌍 Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI)
Rotary’s commitment to being an organization where everyone feels welcomed, heard, and valued was discussed with clarity and openness. Speakers challenged clubs to examine their culture and practices, encouraging more inclusive leadership and engagement across age, race, gender, and background.
🚀 Business Growth & Personal Leadership
This high-energy keynote from a dynamic business leader reminded Rotarians that our professional and personal development directly influences the quality of our service. He unpacked practical strategies for goal setting, accountability, and team-building—leaving the audience motivated and equipped for the year ahead.
Introducing the 2025–2026 District Leadership Team
One of the pivotal moments at DisCon was the formal introduction of the incoming 2025–2026 District Team. The announcement was met with enthusiastic applause as DG Raj handed the baton to the capable hands of a new generation of district leaders. The energy in the room was palpable—a symbol of trust, continuity, and fresh purpose.
This seamless transition of leadership is what makes Rotary unique: a cycle of renewal where each leader builds on the legacy of the last, while steering the ship in new and relevant directions.
The Rotary Club of Zimbali Presence
As a club, Rotary Club of Zimbali was proud to participate in DisCon 2025. Our representatives attended key workshops, networked with fellow Rotarians, and engaged in the sessions with curiosity and commitment.
Being part of such a dynamic and diverse gathering helped reaffirm our commitment to “Unite for Good”, our theme for the year under President Fidel Okillah. It also provided valuable insight into how we can align our local initiatives with district and global priorities.
Social Moments & Shared Fellowship
DisCon wouldn’t be complete without the lighter moments of joy, laughter, and reconnection. From evening dinners to morning walks along the Durban beachfront, Rotarians from across the district shared stories, celebrated milestones, and built bonds that will strengthen collaboration in the year ahead.
These moments of fellowship are more than social—they are reminders that service is rooted in relationships and shared purpose.
Looking Ahead
DisCon 2025 wasn’t just a conference. It was a catalyst—a spark that lit new ideas, ignited renewed enthusiasm, and reminded every Rotarian in attendance why we joined this movement in the first place.
With fresh strategies, deeper friendships, and a collective vision for impact, we leave the conference inspired to go back into our clubs and do more, serve better, and lead boldly.
Rotary Club of Zimbali is ready to rise to the occasion. With strong district leadership, collaborative partners, and a vibrant community of members, the road ahead is full of possibility.
Together, we move forward. Together, we serve. Together, we Unite for Good.
