A New Season of Service

The start of every Rotary year marks not only a fresh calendar of events but also a meaningful leadership transition that brings with it new vision, renewed purpose, and elevated commitment. On the 1st of July 2025, the Rotary Club of Zimbali proudly celebrated the induction of its new President, Fidel Okillah, during a memorable and inspiring ceremony attended by Rotarians, community partners, and honoured guests.

This wasn’t just a change in leadership—it was the beginning of a new season of service, firmly rooted in the Rotary theme for the year: “Unite for Good.” With that theme guiding the tone and direction of the evening, the club was ready to chart a path forward, building on past successes while embracing new opportunities for impact.

The evening was graced by the presence of District Governor Raj, who led the formal installation of President Fidel. His presence reminded all in attendance of the importance of staying connected to the broader Rotary family, aligning club efforts with district goals, and holding ourselves accountable to the highest standards of service.

Also in attendance were Assistant Governor George, President-Elect Lulumile from the Rotary Club of Port Shepstone, and the Chairperson of the iLembe Chamber of Commerce, representing the growing ties between Rotary and the local business community. Their presence reinforced a growing sentiment: Rotary is most powerful when it leads collaboratively and inclusively.

During his address, outgoing President Julie Cloete shared a heartfelt reflection on the club’s journey over the past year. Under her leadership, the Rotary Club of Zimbali reached new heights—both in terms of community impact and internal growth. She proudly highlighted the club’s achievements, including an increase in project funding and charitable outreach, strengthened partnerships with local organisations, and most notably, the honour of being awarded a Rotary Citation, the highest recognition a club can receive from Rotary International.

As part of the ceremony, President Julie also had the privilege of recognising Past President Kosh with the prestigious Paul Harris Fellow award, in acknowledgment of his steadfast leadership and enduring contribution to Rotary values. His quiet consistency and wisdom have helped shape the club’s culture and laid a strong foundation for future growth.

Then came the moment everyone had been waiting for—the installation of the new club president. With poise and humility, President Fidel Okillah took the podium, marking the beginning of his term with a stirring address that reflected both personal conviction and strategic clarity.

His message was anchored in the year’s theme—Unite for Good—a call to action that reminds Rotarians of the power of collaboration, community, and compassionate leadership. Fidel spoke of his belief that the club’s strength lies not just in individual effort, but in collective momentum.

He outlined his key focus areas for the year, which include:

  1. Leadership Development – Encouraging every member to grow as a leader in their own right, through mentorship, participation, and open dialogue.
  2. Membership Growth – Expanding the club with like-minded individuals who bring energy, ideas, and a heart for service.
  3. Project Funding and Sustainability – Ensuring that every initiative we undertake is well-resourced, strategically aligned, and capable of creating long-term community impact.

He also took a moment to honour the founders and charter members of Rotary Club of Zimbali, acknowledging the vision and courage it took to start something from scratch and the unwavering commitment it takes to sustain it. “We walk on the paths they paved,” he said. “And it’s our responsibility to honour that legacy by going even further.”

Beyond strategy, President Fidel’s speech captured something intangible but vital: the spirit of Rotary service. He spoke of listening more deeply, serving more intentionally, and loving more freely—all while remaining bold in leadership and brave in vision. He invited every member to lean in, contribute with confidence, and remember that impact begins with unity.

The evening concluded with toasts, shared laughter, warm wishes, and renewed resolve. Photos were taken, stories were shared, and one could feel a quiet shift in the room—a sense that something meaningful had just begun.

For those who attended, the induction ceremony was more than just an event—it was a moment of recommitment. It was a reminder that while leadership may change, the mission remains constant: to serve with heart, lead with humility, and build communities of hope.

As the Rotary Club of Zimbali embarks on this new year under President Fidel’s guidance, the road ahead looks promising. With strong leadership, a clear strategy, and an engaged membership, the club is well positioned to grow its impact, deepen its partnerships, and embody the Rotary spirit in everything it does.

This is more than a change in office. It is a renewed promise to stand together, work together, and most of all—to unite for good.
